Ham Hill is a great site for experiencing the great outdoors in loads of exciting ways.

Orienteering and Geocaching

Ham Hill is a great place to enjoy orienteering. As well as being a fun family activity, orienteering is an ideal activity for scout and guide groups, for young people practising for Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and also for staff team-building days! Ham Hill has a permanent orienteering course that you can take part in whenever you like: all you need is a Ham Hill Orienteering Pack.

The Ham Hill Quarry, locally known as Deep Quarry, is a designated Geological SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and is protected under law for its superb geological exposures. Protection of the rock face and climbing are compatible so long as climbers respect the area and its wildlife. The face is climbed by a couple of excellent local clubs – please visit the British Mountaineering Council’s website for information on local groups and advice on access.

The British Mountaineering Council recognises that climbing, hill walking and mountaineering are activities with a danger of personal injury or death. Participants taking part in these activities should be aware of and accept these risks and be responsible for their own actions.
