Education & Outdoor Learning Sessions available
Choose from a wide range of activity sessions for your school or nursery. Would you like something bespoke to link with a special topic? We are happy to discuss your requirements and will aim to find a sessions which meet your needs.
We are able to offer sessions for Schools, Nurseries and Adult education at Yeovil Country Park, Ham Hill Country Park and Chard Reservoir Local Nature Reserve.
We’ll do all the preparation, planning and delivery to enable your session to run smoothly. We have run sessions for local schools including; preschools & nurseries, special schools, infant, junior, primary and secondary, PRU, Autism units, trainee teachers, school staff.
Sessions are run by Becky Russell, qualified Biologist, Forest School leader, Bushcraft practitioner, Environmental Educator and Youth group leader. Sessions can be bespoke for your pupils or from a list of activities below. We are happy to tailor sessions to specific aspects of the curriculum or particular topic interest.
Becky is DBS cleared, first aid qualified, insured and is regularly supported by local volunteers at these sessions.
Sessions can include;
Bug/mini-beast hunting, using nets, wildlife ID guides, spotter sheets and microscope, will cover habitats, adaptations, life cycles, biodiversity
Pond dipping, using nets and tanks, wildlife ID guides, adaptations, life cycles, biodiversity (Yeovil & Chard)
Den building using poles/nets/tarps
Orienteering & compass games (Yeovil & Ham Hill)
Fire lighting & Campfire cooking
Bat walk and bat ecology session, biodiversity, conservation (September & October)
Bird walk and ID guide with binoculars, could include creating bird feeders
Water courses and ecology
Woodland Walk and tree/flower ID, seasons, habitats, conservation, biodiversity
Forest school sessions
Heritage sessions-Iron Age, Roman, Bronze Age, Victorian, with handling artefacts, costumes, crafts and activities
Craft sessions; leaf printing, willow weaving, pewter casting, leather craft, wood cookies, natural cordage, charcoal making & sketching, clay modelling, sun prints, natural dyes (materials charges may apply). Craft sessions may also form part of one of the above activities, e.g. mini beats hunting then create your own clay minibeast.
We can cater for large groups of pupils (we have run sessions for in excess of 100pupils). We do this by setting up a carousel of different activities for the pupils to move between during the session.
Bespoke sessions can be arranged incorporating additional activities and activities from above, just contact us to discuss your requirements.
Additional staffing may be available at an additional cost to provide extra staff led activities. We can support to your school staff to run simple activities.
Becky will supply Risk Assessments for the site and activity, however you will need to tailor them to the specific needs of your pupils. The school will need to provide the required adult ratio and will be responsible for the participants and their behaviour at all times.
Education and Outdoor Learning Sessions
Half day Session (up to 2.5 hours)
£60 + £1 per pupil, minimum of 20 pupils (minimum charge £80)
Costs are negotiable for more than 50 pupils*
Full day session (up to 5 hours) or back to back half day sessions
£150-£200 dependent upon numbers of pupils and range of activities*
*There may be additional charges if your activity requires additional materials, resources or staff. These will be discussed at time of booking.
