Community Group Sessions available

Are you a leader or assistant with a youth group or community group? How about trying something new and inspiring with your group?

We are able to offer sessions for Youth and Community Groups at Yeovil Country Park, Ham Hill Country Park and Chard Reservoir Local Nature Reserve.

Alternatively we can come to your venue and deliver an activity or a presentation and talk.

We’ll do all the preparation, planning and delivery to enable your session to run smoothly. We have run sessions for local groups including; Youth Clubs, Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers, Rainbows, Brownies, Guides, Girls Brigade, ADHD group, Chernobyl Children, U3A, NHS Retirement Group, Care homes, history groups and gardening groups .

Sessions are run by Becky Russell, qualified Biologist, Forest School leader, Bushcraft practitioner, Environmental Educator and Youth group leader.  Sessions can be bespoke for your group or selected from a list of activities.  We are happy to tailor sessions towards specific badges or group requirements and abilities.  Some activities are more suited to older participants, or smaller groups, please discuss this when you book.

Becky is DBS cleared, first aid qualified, insured and is regularly supported by local volunteers at sessions.

Charge £50 (additional charges for materials if required) for up to 25 participants for up to 1.5hrs. £75 for up to 2.5hrs. Additional participants may be possible, please contact us to discuss your requirements.

 

Sessions can include;

Site Guided Walk

Presentation with photographs about the sites, wildlife, heritage, conservation and the countryside service.

Bug hunting, using nets, wildlife ID and spotter sheets

Pond dipping, using nets and tanks, wildlife ID (Yeovil & Chard)

Practical conservation

Den building using poles/nets/tarps

Orienteering & compass games (Yeovil & Ham Hill)

Fire lighting & Campfire cooking (small charge for food)

Bat walk and bat ecology session (September & October)

Bird walk and ID

Woodland Walk and tree/flower ID

Forest school

Heritage sessions-Iron age, Roman, Bronze age, Victorian, with handling artefacts, costumes, crafts and activities

Crafts sessions; leaf printing, willow weaving, pewter casting, leather craft, wood cookies, natural cordage, charcoal making & sketching, clay modelling, sun prints, natural dyes (materials charges may apply)

Bespoke sessions can be arranged incorporating additional activities and activities from above, just contact us to discuss your requirements.

Becky will supply Risk Assessments for the site and activity, however you will need to tailor them to the specific needs of your group.  Where necessary the group will need to provide the required adult ratio and will be responsible for the participants at all times.
