Countryside Events

Welcome to our events programme for 2014.

 

Due to the event management, popularity and in some cases limited availability, the majority of events must be booked in advance.  All places are allocated at the time of payment so book early to avoid disappointment.

 

 

Tuesday 8th April

Easter Egg Trail at Yeovil Country Park

 

Enter the magical world of Ninepsrings at Easter.  Follow the trail through the woods and find the Easter bunny to collect your chocolate egg.  This trail takes approximately one hour to complete, and you can start it anytime between 10.00am and 2.00pm.

 

Pushchair friendly start out option.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Cost £1 per child payable on day.

Meet at Noticeboard near Goldenstones.

   

 

Thursday 10th April

Swords and Torcs at Ham Hill Country Park

1.30-3.30pm

 

Become an Iron Age warrior or maiden for the day. Show off you fighting skills or wealth by creating your very own sword or torc necklace.  Give your tribe a name and defend the hill against invaders.

 

Cost £3.50 per child

Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Accompanying adults free.

Thursday 17th April

Easter Egg Hunt at Ham Hill Country Park

1.30 - 3.30pm

 

The Easter bunnies had hidden his stash of Easter eggs at Pitt Wood, Ham Hill. Find egg tokens to unlock the secret of where the eggs are buried.

 

Please wear good walking shoes/wellies. Sorry no buggies.

Meet in Lime Kiln Car Park, Ham Hill

Friday 30th May

Willow Head Dresses and Wands at Yeovil Country Park

1.30 - 3.30pm

 

Make your own willow wand or head dress and decorate it with woodland finds, ribbon and lace.

 

Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Accompanying adults free.

Sunday 8th June

Ninesprings 9K event organised by Yeovil Town Road Running Club

 

The successful Ninespring series returns for 2014 with a 1 mile fun run 4.5km or 9km run on offer, whether you are an experienced or first time racer the Yeovil Town Road Running Club welcome you to this picturesque route around the country park. Tuesday 24th June

Teddy Bears Picnic at Yeovil Country Park

11.00-1.00pm

 

If you go to the woods today, you're sure of a big surprise! Come to Ninesprings and join us for a bear hunt followed by activities on the meadow, bring your teddy bears and a picnic.  Free event no booking required.

 

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Saturday 12th July

Well Dressing at Yeovil Country Park

From 4.00pm -

 

Visit the valley gardens to see the flower mandalas and wreaths in the springs and streams between 4.00 and 6.00pm.  At 6.30 meet outside Goldenstones to follow the wandering minstrel up into the magical valley gardens.  At 8pm see the springs lit up by candle light and enjoy the music. Followed by a fire show to finish.

Finished by 9.30pm

Saturday 19th July

Chard Countryside Day

 

Come to Chard Reservoir and enjoy the countryside fair, with a range of free activities also meet the rangers who look after our sites at this lovely day out.

Tuesday 29th July

Woodland Storytelling at Yeovil Country Park

10.00am - 12noon

 

Walk with the gruffalo and make your own stickman.  Explore the woods and woodland playzone at Ninesprings.   Suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

 

 

Costs £3.50 per child.

Children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Accompanying aduts free.

Bumble Flies at Ham Hill Country Park

1.30 - 3.30pm

 

Join the rangers in the summer meadows. See the wild flowers, listen to the skylards while collecting pollen with your very own mini beast.

Bugs and Boxes at Chard Reservoir

10.00am - 12.00noon

 

Enjoy the colours of the summer meadows at Chard Reservoir, while hunting for bugs. 

Later build you own bug box to take home.

National Play Day at Yeovil Country Park

 

Free event organised by South Somerset District Council Play and Youth Facilities Team.

Woodland Dens at Ham Hill Country Park

1.30 - 3.30pm

 

 

Come to the country park to build your own woodland den.  We will gather lots of twigs and leaves and then give a prize for the best den.

Fascinating Fire Lighting at Ham Hill

Can you make fire. Join the rangers and learn all the skills you need to make a fire in the outdoor.

Mysterious Mini Beast at Yeovil Country Park

Come along and discover the mysterious world of the mini beast.  You can even create your own mini beast to take home.

Campfire Cooking at Ham Hill

Come and enjoy wild food picked from the country park.  Make bread, enjoy hedgerow ham, stinging nettle stew and toasted marshmallows.

Fungi Foray at Ham Hill Country Park

10.00am - 12.00noon

 

Have you ever seen a chick of the woods? Or touched a Slippery Jack? Find out more about the fascinating world of fungi with expert Michael Jordan as he takes you on a foray at Ham Hill.

 

Cost £4.50 per adult

        £3.50 per child

Halloween Pumpkin Carving at Ham Hill

5.00 - 7.00 pm

 

Wear your best Halloween fancy dress and carve a scary pumpkin ready for Halloween - prize for best fancy dress and best pumpkin.

Halloween Trail at Yeovil Country Park

Friday 31st October

10.00am - 3.00pm

 

Follow the spooky trail through the woods to find the letters and complete the witches spell.  The trail takes approximately one hour to complete.  Drop in anytime from 10.00am.  Last start time is 2.00pm. Have a go if you dare!!!!!

 

Free event no need to book just turn up.

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

 

 

Wednesday 5th November

Bonfire Night at Ham Hill.

5.00 - 7.00pm

 

A torch light procession from the rangers office will wind its way around the stone circle and light our bonfire.   Dress up to win a prize and keep warm with mulled apple juice and marshmallow over the fire.  No firework allowed.

Wednesday 10th December

Make  Your Own Rustic Rudolf at Yeovil Country Park

5.30 - 7.30pm

 

Join the rangers to create your own wooden reindeer, made from wood in Yeovil Country Park. Assemble the reindeer and decorate it as you wish - just a red nose, or stripes and glitter - the choice is yours.  A great event for the whole family. Mince pies and hot drinks provided. Limited spaces.

 

Cost £10 per child(only 10 spaces)

All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Thursday 18th December

Christmas Crafts at Ham Hill

5.30 - 7.30pm

 

Cut your own Christmas carbon footprint by creating your own eco-decoration.  Yules logs, baubles and wreath all gathered at Ham Hill or near by.
